Emirates NBD

As the largest financial institution by assets in the Middle East, Emirates NBD has always actively supported the communities in which we operate. Our legacy banks of National Bank of Dubai and Emirates Bank International have a long history of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with literally hundreds of community based projects undertaken since the founding of the banks more than 40 years ago.

As Emirates NBD our CSR policy is built on a community platform based on the four core pillars of environment, education, culture and charity. By carefully selecting meaningful projects in each of these four core areas and successfully delivering them, we try to positively impact our communities. Key to this is a respect we at the bank nurture for our customers, our communities, our staff and the wider environment. By maintaining this clear focus we aim to be well placed to achieve our goal of corporate sustainability.

This goal is enmeshed in Emirates NBD’s corporate vision of being globally recognized as the leading and most dynamic financial services provider based in the Middle East.

Our four pillars in detail are:

EDUCATION
The development and prosperity of any country is shaped by the availability and accessibility of excellent education. Investing in education builds a confidence and ability, especially in young people, to fulfill their potential. It is these very people who represent for us our future customers and employees. Diversity, especially in the polyglot society that is the UAE, is to be embraced and celebrated. By embracing diversity, Emirates NBD are better able to recognize the requirements and aspirations of all the communities that we serve.

ENVIRONMENT
In order to care and sustain the environment - the place in which we live and work and to keep it safe and healthy for future generations - we need to take some active and timely decisions. We can all do more as individuals even on a micro scale (e.g. recycle waste, monitor consumption) which will help our sustainability and build a brighter future. Corporately, Emirates NBD can do much more. We wish to build a sustainable company for future generations.

CULTURE
Culture hand in hand with education enriches the lives of our communities. It is important to recognize the role that art, literature, music and the broader arts and cultural activities play in nourishing a society. By providing support and facilitating the artistic and cultural landscape we hope to support community development.

CHARITY
Sectors of our communities are less fortunate than many of us. They require the support and assistance of the stronger elements of our society which might include large corporate companies. Emirates NBD has a social responsibility to extend a helping hand to worthwhile needy causes. We are able to offer assistance, be it financial or time bound, via an Emirates NBD staff volunteer programme.

The Emirates NBD Greenland Quest 2009 is an initiative that the bank is proud to be supporting as title sponsor. The quest combines two of our CSR pillars, that of Environment and Education, and represents a fully integrated programme which allows us to heighten awareness about environmental issues for our planet as well as provide an educational component that is accessible to all schools. Students will be able to interact with a live and ongoing expedition that is conducting scientific research. For the first time they will be able to ask questions of explorer Adrian Hayes and his team as they strive to complete their epic 3500 kilometre journey across Greenland. If completed it will represent the longest unassisted Arctic polar journey / expedition in history.

The project  builds on an earlier successful sponsorship /collaboration between legacy bank Emirates Bank International  and Adrian Hayes when Adrian became the quickest person in history, and only the 15th ever, to achieve the ‘3 poles’ of the Earth - an achievement which earned recognition in the 2009 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Rick Pudner, CEO of Emirates NBD commented, “We are always keen to learn of Adrian’s projects and impressed by his dedication and determination to achieve his goal. The Emirates NBD Greenland Quest 2009 is different in that we hope to extend our banks own green environmental message GREENLAND 4 A GREEN LAND to schools and educational establishments throughout the UAE and even further afield. Via the educational packs and a series of talks and lectures Adrian will be making upon his return, we hope to promote change in the way we approach sustainability“
